The Coachella Festival is over for another year but it has once again revealed the new and the unusual side of the local music industry. Unprompted, the crowd sung the refrain of ‘Limousine’, as well as following up this interactive performance with synchronised hand clapping and finger counting during the ‘1,2,3,4...’ lyrics of 'I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance Wit You'.

The tie-dye clad fans ignored the closeness and the heat of the mosh pit to enjoy the new tunes and initiate them into the ranks of their playlists. While we think that limousines are a luxurious and easily organised way to add a little style to an ordinary dinner date or complete a special prom outfit, they too have a life of their own.

The connotations and images surrounding limousines and limo hire could easily cause contention among tie-dye wearing festival goers. While we enjoy the luxury and style of riding in a chauffeur driven limousine, they may see a limousine as a symbol of servitude, of using someone or something.

However at this year’s Coachella Festival this is not the case and the music industry has taken another surprising turn. ‘I Wanna Be Your Limousine’ may have less than pure meanings but it still also arouses images of luxury and indulgence which is something we should all have the opportunity to enjoy once in a while, regardless of our wardrobe.
